Prepare to stop!

prepare to stopPreparing to stop!  This sign showed up in our town this summer because they put in an unexpected stop sign due to roadwork.  Good thing or I would have gone whizzing by that stop sign!   That would have been bad since it’s right in front of the sheriff’s office!  It made me stop and think of other areas in my life.  When I need to stop overeating, yelling at the kids, overspending, or worrying, do I need to prepare first to stop? And where does my help come from?

Psalm 121

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?

2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;…

7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;

8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

What a truth – our ever-present God is there to help us every step of the way!

Prepare to stop a habit that’s not good for you.  A great first step is to ask God for help, or in other words lift your eyes to the hills!

    As a fellow DIYer, it is easy for me to think I have to do everything myself. Even my relationship with God is fraught with “I can do it myself!” and then alternately, “Help! I’m drowning here.” Your devotion helps me apply the brakes and look for my green light — God. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing more of your encouraging words.

    • I can do it myself-I can relate! I like to be in the driver seat but too often take the wrong turn away from how God would have me do things. Fortunately he is patient with me, forgives me and sends me on the right path! Thanks for your post!
